Karlijn Verhagen Interview

#23 Karlijn Verhagen By Kris Scott.

Karlijn Verhagen is a YouTube singing sensation from the Netherlands.

We asked her a few questions and this is what she had to say. Have a little read:

Kris- Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Karlijn- My name is Karlijn and I’m 17 years old. I love to make music and this is what I do since I was six years old. I started singing at the age of eight years old and then I already participated at a singing festival for kids here in The Netherlands. That’s where it all began.

Kris- How long have you been singing for?

Karlijn- I started singing when I was 8 years old. I already sang for 700 people in a theatre when I had that age. Since then I knew that this is what I wanted to do when I was older. At the age of 11 I started singing in English and I participated at some local talent shows in pubs and cafes. I loved to do this and it really helped me building some stage experience.

Kris- What or who was it that influenced you to start singing?

Karlijn- I think the fact that I was singing for 700 people at the age of 8 years old that influenced me to start singing and performing and dreaming about a future being an artist.

Kris- Could you tell us a bit about your songs your writing or albums you’re working on just now?

Karlijn- I just released my latest single ‘Coming My Way’ on iTunes. There will be an Official Music Video on Youtube soon! I am really busy working on new original songs for an upcoming album. I think your own songs are the most important thing to have as an artist. That makes you unique. I start writing a song with creating some chords on my piano or guitar. When I have some chords that I like I start creating a melody on those chords. After that I start thinking about the lyrics and the subject I wanna write about. But sometimes I start with writing the lyrics and I will create a melody and the chords later.

Kris- Does anything act as an inspiration for your songs?

Karlijn- I think the fact that I’m a really hard worker and that I really want to do this are inspirations for my songs. My single ‘Watch Me’ and my single ‘Coming My Way’ are about this subject. I love to dream big but I think you should really fight for something that you want. You should take risks and try everything.

I also think that other artists are an inspiration for my songs. I listen to music a lot of course, and all these songs or subjects they are writing about inspire me to make my own songs.

Kris- What do you do when you aren’t making music?

Karlijn- I am spending time at the gym, with my boyfriend and friends, or I’m having dance lessons. I love to shop and watch movies or series on Netflix. I also like going out with friends to a party.

Kris- What’s it like when you get to meet your fans?

Karlijn- I love it. They are the people who dig your music and that is so amazing. They adore you because of the fact that you sing and write songs. Sometimes it’s a little weird tho. As an example: I had a Youtube Concert in the Netherlands and there was a German girl, named Lisa, who is a fan of me. She came to the concert and she payed for a Meet & Greet. When she saw me she had tears in her eyes and started crying and hugging me. I really didn’t expect that and it was really new to me!! But it was so sweet.

Kris- Where would you like to see yourself in the future?

Karlijn- I would love to be an artist who has some huge hits and is able to tour through Europe and America. It is my dream to become a real star and to make more music and have more gigs. I would love to see myself as an act with background dancers.

We here at AnyThink would like to thank you for taking the time to take part in this interview and look forward to seeing more of you in the future.

‘Coming my way’ is the new single from Karlijn and is available for purchase on itunes.
